Eleven days till Christmas

December 14, 2009

Christmas is only eleven days away and I have only bought two gifts and oddly I'm not panicking. I have a plan and I know it just has to get done somehow. I believe my peace of mind comes from the fact that I finished my holiday decorating early this year. My delay to shop came from my preoccupation with finishing my floors upstairs. They came out beautiful! I had wood laminate flooring put in throughout my second floor and what a difference it makes. It looks clean, rich, and big! My rooms look so much bigger! I'm so glad I went with laminate instead of wood. I've been moving furniture all around and not a scratch!  My next project will be my master bathroom. I redid it not too long ago and now I hate it! I don't know why I'm so wishy washy when it comes to decorating my own house I drive my husband crazy, as well as myself. I decided to go more contemporary in there and now I feel it just doesn't work with the rest of my home. I have a British colonial/cottage/country thing going on that all really works well if I do say so myself but I think that my burning desire to do a contemporary space totally  overrode my common (decorating) sense! I started with tan colored walls which I ended up hating. I'm not a tan person, the tint had too much grey in it and it felt oppressive. So I decided to try to work with the color by adding large horizontal white awning stripes. Still too dingy looking so I added some smaller colored stripes. Ok, but too contemporary. I also painted my vanity black, which I thought looked great at the time, but now it's just too sleek. Of course the chrome bar pulls don't help either. My new plan is to add bead board to the walls, do a faux wood paint technique on the vanity, add a marble counter top and brass pulls, a tiled backsplash, and a white vessel sink maybe shaped like a shell( I saw one on eBay). I'm so looking forward to the transformation but I have to wait until after the holidays, so stay tuned.
