My Master Bathroom part 1
January 7, 2010
Hi everyone
It's Winter, the holidays are over and I need a project. I'm feeling that urge to be creative so I'm taking on my master bath. I need to get this done before Spring so I'll be able to concentrate on the outside then. My master bathroom has been begging for my attention and frankly I can't stand looking at it anymore! The space causes me stress every time I walk in to it!

I've started with my vanity. It is your average builders grade vanity which I would love to change but can't afford what I really want so I'm making due. What is good about it is it has one drawer on each end with a large cabinet underneath for towels. Even if I could change it I would be opening up a whole can of worms because I would have to continue the tile that was not put underneath it since the vanity I would like has legs. Too much trouble when all I really don't like about it is the color. It was originally oak laminate, then I painted it black during a weak period when I thought I wanted to have a more contemporary look in my bathroom. I...

A Winter Project to Lighten the Mood and My Thoughts on Transformation
January 7, 2010
Hi Everyone,
I haven't posted in awhile. I've been very busy with the Holidays as most of you have too, I'm sure. Welcome back to my blog. It's January and I'm determined to make the most of this grey time of year by finishing the house projects I've been meaning to get to and making everything look as pretty as I can on the inside so come Spring I can concentrate on the outside.
I don't know if it's the designer in me that just can't rest until what needs to get done gets done and everything looks pretty or if I'm just a compulsive person who doesn't know how to relax or maybe a combination. My husband would vote the latter. I doesn't make me a bad person!
I believe that because of my design sense and my desire to constantly be creative that I am more" in tune" to my surroundings. I think that many people don't really care that much about their surroundings and are not in touch with the subliminal (as they may be) effects the space they're in has on them....UNTIL it's transformed, into something beautiful, especially if they played a role in making it such!. Then they realize what...

Eleven days till Christmas
December 14, 2009
Christmas is only eleven days away and I have only bought two gifts and oddly I'm not panicking. I have a plan and I know it just has to get done somehow. I believe my peace of mind comes from the fact that I finished my holiday decorating early this year. My delay to shop came from my preoccupation with finishing my floors upstairs. They came out beautiful! I had wood laminate flooring put in throughout my second floor and what a difference it makes. It looks clean, rich, and big! My rooms look so much bigger! I'm so glad I went with laminate instead of wood. I've been moving furniture all around and not a scratch! My next project will be my master bathroom. I redid it not too long ago and now I hate it! I don't know why I'm so wishy washy when it comes to decorating my own house I drive my husband crazy, as well as myself. I decided to go more contemporary in there and now I feel it just doesn't work with the rest of my home. I have a British colonial/cottage/country thing going on that all really works well if I do say so myself...

Olga and Lou's New Living Room
December 5, 2009
Hello again,
The before and after pic's for this room are posted on my slide show page, take a look.
I finally finished Olga and Lou's Living room. It took more time than we planned because I had a problem with the Traverse rod for the large bay window they have. I could not get it to open and close correctly. I really needed a window treatment that they could operate easily from the side of the window since they have a sofa right in front of it. Blinds wouldn't work because they would have had to rest on the sofa to reach the cords to pull the blinds up and down. The Traverse rod was a great solution but didn't work out. Even had Alex from JC Penney's come out to help( thanks Alex, you're the best!) but we had to send it back. In the end we opted for verticle fabric blinds with dummy drapery panels on each side and a valance. The whole room turned out even better than I planned and Olga and Lou are very happy and sooo cozy in their new space! Wouldn't mind moving in myself.
It's difficult when you (I) finish a space for a client ,...

I wish I started sooner, but I'm just wrapping up a design job I did on Olga and Lou's living room. This young couple have a beautiful split level in the burbs. They just gave birth to the cutest little baby boy and needed help making their house more homey. They had very dark window drapes that blocked out most of the light and muddy sage green wall color which made the room feel oppressive. We lightened up the walls with a warm yellow and we're adding blinds and dummy panels to the large bay window. I'll be doing the install...
